Our Work
Pathways of Promise Kenya is a Kenyan nonprofit organisation dedicated to supporting and advocating for children affected by parental incarceration, with particular attention to children whose mothers are incarcerated. We recognise that when a parent is imprisoned, the consequences extend far beyond the prison walls—affecting children through separation, disrupted education, financial hardship, changes in caregiving, stigma and emotional distress. Our work exists to bring these children into focus and to ensure their experiences and needs are recognised.
Our approach brings together several complementary areas of work. Through welfare engagement and field visits, we seek to understand the circumstances and needs of children and families affected by parental incarceration. Subject to available resources and partnerships, we facilitate practical support addressing children's material, educational and other identified welfare needs. We are committed to research and documentation, identifying gaps in support and developing knowledge that contributes to a better understanding of these children's lives. Through advocacy and awareness, we encourage greater recognition of their experiences and promote informed discussion about their welfare, rights and needs. And through learning and collaboration, we engage with stakeholders and partners to strengthen our capacity and contribute to more effective, sustainable support.
Our work is grounded in the belief that a child's circumstances should never determine their dignity, their worth or their opportunities in life. Every child deserves a future defined by possibility, not by the circumstances of their parent's incarceration.
